Description
This is one of the more difficult stitches to get right. There are a number of reasons why people battle with it and perhaps this way (my way) could help you to improve your shading. It’s slightly different from the way most people are taught and it uses that wonderful ‘blue dot’ method.
Whilst normally worked with a single strand of cotton, the video samples have been worked with perle #5 thread, for the sake of clarity. The vertical and slightly fanned shading is worked on a petal shape whilst the diagonal shading is worked on half of a leaf shape. Templates for both shapes are provided in the downloadable PDF instructions provided on the page.
Once you have worked through the stitch using the diagram and instructions, in tandem with the video clip on the tuition page, you might find that it will change your feelings about the stitch and if it does, you should be in a position to use this stitch in your embroidery projects. No matter what style of embroidery you do, you will probably need to do shading somewhere on most projects.
The 30 minute video tuition clip is filmed in high resolution and is accompanied by voice over instructions to guide you through the learning process.
