Featured in Hazel’s book, Crewel Birds, this colourful chap is filled with interesting stitches and techniques which are useful for, not only this project but also, have the potential to inspire you in your own embroidery.

Because of publishing contracts, participants will be required to own a copy of the Crewel Animal Portraits book to access the written instructions.  If you do not own the book, it can be ordered from this site by choosing it in the dropdown menu marked ‘kit type’.

Measuring 305 x 275 mm, the project is worked on a natural-coloured linen cotton blend fabric using DMC and Finca cotton threads, and Miyuki beads.   The original of this project has been quilted with batting and participants have the option of doing the same.

The project kit includes everything needed to complete the project as under:

Print on natural coloured linen cotton blend fabric, backed with voile and ready to stitch

  • 15 skeins DMC stranded cotton – solid colours
  • 5 bobbins Finca perle #12 thread
